The Greedy Dog

Once in a bustling village, a street dog found a bone — large and meaty.
His eyes sparkled with pride, and off he went, tail wagging high.
Crossing a wooden bridge over a clear river, he happened to glance down.
In the still water, he saw another dog — bone in mouth, and oh! twice the size!
"That bone should be mine!" he thought greedily.
Without thinking twice, he barked.
But alas! With the bark, down fell his own treasure.
The water rippled, swallowed the bone, and the reflection vanished.
The greedy dog stood stunned.
His mouth was empty, and so was the river.
He ran along the bank, hoping to find his feast again.
But the current had carried it far beyond reach.
The village kids laughed at the wet, foolish dog.
He slunk away, cold and wiser, his belly still hollow.
Later, by the roadside, he saw a squirrel nibbling a nut slowly.
The squirrel looked up and said, "Too much want, too little thought?"
The dog sighed, “Indeed.”
His tail curled under, he learned to value what he had.
And never again did he bark at illusions.
Moral: Those who grasp for more may lose all they hold.
